‎Concerned residents have again called on the Executive Chairman, Ikorodu Local Government, Hon. Adedayo Ladega, to be alive to his responsibilities and do something to rectify the chaotic state at Ikorodu Garage Roundabout.

‎St. Alabama Clinics, one of the the residents who called out the chairman, said the situation in and around the Ikorodu Roundabout down to Ile Omi/Haruna Bus Stop called for urgent attention by the government.

‎The area in question was recently rehabilitated/expanded down to Sabo Market area and Ayangbure/Ojubode axis, by the Lagos State Government to ease traffic and vehicular movement, but rather than serving what it was intended for, it has been turned into market by traders and parks for commercial tricycle,  mini buses and motor bike operators, thereby making life hellish for residents and motorists that make use of the road every day.

‎What makes the situation very disturbing is the fact that successive local government administrations issue tickets to these illegal occupiers of the expanded roads, while residents lament their negative effects.

‎Allison Street which has about seven educational facilities – United Junior & Senior Secondary Schools; Oga Junior & Senior Secondary Schools; Methodist Primary School, Oga Primary School and the Local Government Education Authority (LGEA) is also an eyesore where trading activities usually overshadow educational pursuits as traders and commercial motorcycles go about their businesses without minding the negative effects of their illegal activities on the schools.

‎Over time, residents of Ikorodu have also been lamenting the incessant crime in and around these illegal parks and markets.

‎St. Alabama Clinics  calling Chairman Ladega out on the WhatsApp platform, wrote:

‎”ATTENTION!!!! PRINCE ADEDAYO LADEGA.

‎Please wake up from your slumber and take precise and proactive action concerning Ikorodu Garage Roundabout to Ile Omi/ Haruna Bus Stop.

‎The expansion of that road is to make vehicular movement flow freely but Alas!!! Opposite is what we have. A whole part of the road has been turned to a full blown market which makes movement for pedestrians and vehicles clumsy and difficult.”

‎He urged the council administrator to care more about the menace that the illegal occupiers of the road are causing and not just about the revenue.

‎”Your administration should look beyond making revenue because the purpose for the expansion has been defeated, giving room for crime in that axis; pick pockets operating freely, snatching of phones and other vices.

‎The roundabout is modelled after Allen Junction in Ikeja but illegal activities here constitute an eyesore.

‎PLEASE DO SOMETHING URGENTLY, ” he charged him.

‎Mr Ekundayo Hassan (Dee One), a lecturer and public commentator also contributing blamed road unions for converting the road to parks.

‎”It should also be included that the Road Transport Employers of Nigeria (RTEAN) have converted the main junction of the road to a permanent motor park.”

‎When contacted, the Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the Chairman, Ikorodu Local Government said that the matter had been escalated to the chairman and assured our reporter that his boss is already intervening in the situation.
